Lori completed the Grid on Mount Garfield on February 9, 2014. Lori was joined on this day by her husband, Mike, her mother-in-law, and a contingent of friends and well wishers.

Working towards completing The Grid has given me the opportunity to visit each peak in every season, and it always looks different from month to month and year to year. I’ve enjoyed meeting and hiking with fellow “Gridiots.” We share a common bond - a love of nature and the outdoors - and goal.

I hike because it makes me feel alive. It energizes my mind and body, and makes me stop and slow down. As I hike along, I become fully immersed in the present. Time seems to melt, and I understand what it means to live simply. To observe the snow laced trees, a Gray Jay perched on a branch peering for crumbs, the sun beaming through the winter wonderland, and the wind howling across the ridge makes me appreciate nature. Hiking makes me realize how little material possessions I need (I carry what is most important in my backpack). Hiking has become a passion, a part of who I am, a link to keep me connected to what is really important in life - contentment from within and time spent with loved ones and people who share the same appreciation for the outdoors. I seek the woods because I want to continue living deliberately.

This journey has taught me about patience, dedication and beauty. Thank you fellow hikers and trail maintainers for keeping the true spirit of enjoyment in the outdoors alive. Hiking with my dear friend Kristy has been a fun journey.

And most importantly, thank you to my husband, Mike, my favorite hiking partner, for instilling within me a love of hiking, and for all your encouragement along the way! Hiking together continues to strengthen our relationship and has been a wonderful bonding experience.
