Becca's Comments on Hiking
I started hiking as a teenager or younger, perhaps, during our annual family car-camping trips, one of which was to Franconia Notch State Park. As part of that trip, we hiked the Lafayette and Lincoln loop. At the end of the trip, I hated riding back home and watching the mountains get smaller and smaller the further south we drove along I93. I think I went to my bedroom and cried when I got out of the car-- I missed the mountains so much! Years later, I hiked the Franconia Ridge loop again with just my brother; that was my first officially recorded Grid hike on my birthday: May 7, 2000. The 48 Four-Thousand Footers and then the Grid gave me a reason to get in shape and an excuse to stay fit. By the time I finished the Grid, I realized that every hike is special, no matter how big or small; the forest is always different. ~Becca
